Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus, Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool have been nominated as the three finalists for this year’s FIFA Men’s Player of the Year Award.
This was made known via the official website of FIFA on Monday.
A winner would be determined by a group of experts censored by the football governing body, comprising of former forwards and goalkeepers.
TheEcho recalls that FIFA had in July, 2019 released a ten-man list which also included Frenkie De Jong (Ajax/Barcelona), Matthijs De Ligt (Ajax/Juventus), Eden Hazard (Chelsea/Real Madrid), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Sadio Mane (Liverpool) and Mohammed Salah (Liverpool) before it was pruned down to final three.
The duo of Ronaldo and Messi have won the award five times each.
