The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, has reacted to the Friday tribunal ruling that sacked him as a lawmaker representing the district.
TheEcho reports that the Kogi State National Assembly/State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, Friday, nullified the February 23 elections ushered in Dino Melaye as the senator representing Kogi West District.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Melaye as the winner of the election with 85, 395 votes over his closest rival, Smart Adeyemi who polled 66,902 votes.
Not satisfied with the outcome, Adeyemi approached the Tribunal on three grounds of irregularities, over-voting and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
Melaye took to his Twitter account about an hour after the ruling to assure his constituents that he would appeal the judgement.
He tweeted ”On Tribunal judgement. No cause for alarm at all. Even if it went my way they will still go to the Appeal Court. Our mandate can not be taken. We will get judgment at the Appeal Court.
”There will be fresh election in Kogi West because I will be Governor. For my Senate mandate no shaking.”
