Chelsea head coach, Frank Lampard, Tuesday, spoke on the jersey number Willian will wear for the club in the coming season.
When asked by reporters after the Blues defeated their Spanish rivals, Barcelona in a pre-season game, Lampard said an official decision was yet to be made on the Brazilian jersey number.
Lampard was quoted by Football London as telling reporters: “There’s no confirmation on that decision.
“It will be taken in due course. Hopefully, his return to training date will be early August.”
This is contradictory to what Willian told Brazilian TV show, Desimpediodos on Sunday.
The winger had earlier confirmed that he was offered the shirt and would be willing to take it.
“I was offered the number 10 jersey ahead of next season, and I will take it,” the Brazilian said.
Chelsea will play their final pre-season game against Reading on Sunday.
