As part of the activities marking this year’s Democracy Day celebrations, Governor Oluseyi Makinde of Oyo State has granted pardon to 35 inmates in the state.
This was disclosed on his official Facebook page.
Also, the Governor made it known that the state would celebrate on a ‘low-key’ in order to reflect on the significance of June 12.
TheEcho recalls that the June 12, 1993 election which was adjudged to be the most free and fairest election in the country produced Late MKO Abiola as the president of the country but was annulled by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.
While the day was not given its due importance by past successive governments, President Muhammadu Buhari, some few days ago gazetted it as the official Democracy Day of Nigeria.
