Madrid Derby: Courtois plaque at the Wanda Metropolitano vandalised and covered with rats

Thibaut Courtois’ commemorative plaque outside the Wanda Metropolitano was vandalised by Atletico Madrid supporters ahead of the Madrid derby.

The current Real Madrid goalkeeper made 154 appearances for Atletico during a three-year spell in which he helped Los Rojiblancos to Copa del Rey, LaLiga Santander and Europa League titles.

Since his move to Los Blancos in the summer, many Atletico supporters feel bitter towards the Belgian for what they deem a betrayal.

The plaque that bears his name outside Atletico’s new stadium has been vandalised, with toy rats and stickers with abusive messages left on the square.
