What Saraki said about increasing senators’ monthly allowance

The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has reacted to the claim that he planned increasing the monthly allowance of the nation’s lawmakers in the red chamber.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) had on Monday called the number three citizen out via its official Twitter handle for allegedly planning to raise the senators’ income to N15m monthly.

Reacting through his Special Assistant on New Media, Olu Onemola, Saraki described the statement baseless and untrue.

While urging the organization to always get its fact right, Saraki called on the public to disregard the claim.

The statement reads, “Dear @SERAPNigeria, there is no such “alleged decision” to increase the allowances of Senators. An organization like yours needs to be more careful, especially when pushing out information meant for public consumption. Thank you.

“To avoid any doubt: there is no plan to amend the allowances of Senators. The tweet by @SERAPNigeria is baseless and untrue. The public should disregard this ENTIRELY.”
