The authorities of Real Madrid have axed Julen Lopetegui after an abysmal performance since he took over as the head coach of the club.
The club played 14 competitive games under the managerial watch of the former Spain coach.
Lopetegui’s dismissal comes 24 hours after Real Madrid were heavily humiliated 5-1 by Barcelona at the Nou Camp during their ElClasico encounter.
A club statement read: “Real Madrid’s board met today and agreed to end contract linking coach Julen Lopetegui with club.
“This decision taken to change dynamic in which first team finds itself, when all the objectives for the season are still achievable.”
The Santiago Bernabeu side also announced that former midfielder and Real Madrid Castilla manager, Santiago Solari, will take temporary charge of the club from Tuesday.
Lopetegui was sacked by Spain few days to the beginning of FIFA World Cup when he reached a deal with Real without the knowledge of the relevant authorities.
