A member of House of Representatives and stauch supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin claimed that the defection of Senator Iyiola Omisore to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) saved the ruling party from defeat in the “inconclusive” Osun gubernatorial poll.
TheEcho reports that Omisore was a member of Peoples Democratic Party before he defected to the SDP in the wake of the state’s governorship election.
Jibrin noted that his party was suffering from complacency and it has to wake up before the forthcoming general elections.
The standard bearer of the PDP, Ademola Adeleke polled a total of 254,699 votes ahead of Gboyega Oyetola of the APC that garnered 254,345 votes.
Because the margin was far below the number of cancelled votes, 3, 498, the election was declared inconclusive by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The electoral umpire had announced Thursday, 27th September as the date for the rerun.
Bracing himself up for any eventuality, Jibrin confessed to have been humbled by the outcome of the election.
“I must confess the Osun outcome has humbled me irrespective of who wins the rerun! So it is in order to say if Sen Omisore did not decamp to SDP that pulled 128, 049 votes, PDP would have had an outright win?
“This must be a wake up call for APC to avoid being victim of complacency,” the lawmaker tweeted.
