INEC announces date for Osun rerun election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Sunday announced Thursday, September 27 as the new date to conduct Osun State gubernatorial rerun after an inconclusive election.

The Commission made it known that the election would be conducted in some of the units in which votes were cancelled for alleged irregularities.

The four affected local council areas are Orolu, Osogbo, Ife South and Ife North.

TheEcho had earlier reported that the INEC had earlier announced the final outcome of the September 22 gubernatorial polls where Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is trailing its closest rival, All Progressives Congress (APC) with 353 votes.

The Returning Officer of the election, Prof. Joseph Adeola said since the total cancelled ballots (3348) were more than the winning margin, none of the candidates could be declared as the winner of the poll.

So, Thursday’s rerun will determine the eventual winner of the keenly contested poll.
