Win award justly, don’t prostitute your ideology, Niyi Osundare advises

Prof. Niyi Osundare, the prolific poet, dramatist and literary critic, Tuesday advised burgeoning writers to win awards justly without having to prostitute their ideology.

Osundare said this while addressing a gathering of students and lovers of literature at the Faculty of Arts Lecture Room 40, University of Ibadan.

According to him, “It takes a lot of effort to become an author then but now there is an increasing extension of the malady of fast food” in which there is a low level of the employment of conceit and metaphor.

While he did not ignore the joy of having to witness the increasing literary consciousness he however warned against prostituting ideologies for the sake of winning awards and getting recognized.

The event tagged Poetic Treat with Prof. Niyi Osundare was an initiative of the students of the Department of English.
