The details of the meeting held between Senate President Bukola Saraki and leaders of Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital have emerged.
Apart from Saraki and Uche Secondus, the chairman of the PDP, other political figures at the meeting were Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, their Rivers state counterpart, Nyesom Wike while Abdul Fatai Ahmed, the governor of Kwara served as their host.
It was gathered that the gathering was for three reasons.
“They met to attend the burial rites of Alhaji Kawu Baraje’s mother.
“They used the occasion to share opinions on burning national issues including the 2019 general elections.
“Also, the defection of aggrieved members of the APC to the PDP was discussed”, Daily Post quoted a source.
It was also gathered that the formal defection of members of Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) will happen any moment from now.
When the newspaper contacted the media adviser of Ahmed, Dr.Muhyideen Akorede on the details of the meeting, he said the personalities were in Kwara“for the burial rites of the late mother of respected politician, Alh Kawu Baraje and was not for the purpose of a political realignment.
“While I have not been briefed on any planned defection, I am aware that my principal and other political leaders in the state are gradually being shown the way out of the APC.”
TheEcho recalls that Ortom had on Monday made it known that he was no longer with the APC.
