UNIZIK Business School (UBS), a new school under Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has revealed that it is set to end problems associated with the preparation and implementation of budgets in Nigeria through its Budget Roundtable.
According to ThisDay, the Director of the school, Prof Au Nonyelu, said that experts on budget issues have been contacted for the maiden edition of the annual event.
“Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah (OON), an internationally acclaimed Petroleum Engineer has endowed this Budget Roundtable and will support it in perpetuity. This year’s own, that is the inaugural Roundtable shall hold on April 5th 2017, at the University Auditorium.
High profile politicians across the South East zone are expected at the event, with Prof. Pat Utomi being the Guest Speaker of the event.
According to the Director, the newly established Unizik Business School in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka is committed to unravelling issues associated with budget and hopes to provide the roadmap that will direct, and reorient the entire mechanisms and processes involved in budget development and implementation.
He said that pursuant to this, the school will hold the Annual Budget Roundtable in March every year where eminent persons and discussants from within and outside Nigeria are invited to interrogate all budget issues as they affect Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Nigerian people. Nonyelu said the roundtable will serve as the schools modest contribution to national discourse, and will help strengthen budget process, avoid the pitfalls of budget padding and insertion as was recently the case in Nigeria.
