2019 timetable: INEC starts rigging process for APC- Secondus

Former National Deputy Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, on Friday criticised  the 2019 Election timetable as released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), submitting that the Commission has an ulterior motive of supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

In a reaction through a personal statement to the timetable released on Thursday by INEC, the politician opined that one needs not to look further before concluding that the present Electoral body was composed to the bidding of the ruling APC.

According to Secondus, the present INEC as composed, does not have the wherewithal to conduct what he described as unbiased election, just as he called for an immediate dissolution of Professor Mahmood Yakubu led INEC and reconstitute a new one with men and women of integrity as a measure to save the present  democracy, adding that the APC is desperate, the Vanguard reports.

The politician described the Commission’s action as rash as there was no proper consultations with the relevant stakeholders before the release of the timetable and that the Commission was only determined to fulfil the agenda of the APC.

Ecko Vibes had on Friday reported the release of the 2019 general election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, through her National Commissioner on Publicity, Solomon Soyebi which fixed February 16, 2019 for Presidential and National Assembly election and March 2 for gubernatorial and state House of Assembly election.

Speaking further, Secondus said the Commission has rather neglected democratic principles in rushing to make such a huge decision while there were still urgent duties before it. He said, “It is curious that an electoral commission that is yet to be properly constituted and has before it many unfinished matters including voter education and enlightenment, had to rush out date for 2019 general election in full disregard of rule guiding it.”
